I clean my fridge out every 2 weeks or once a month BEFORE I go to the grocery store. I get rid of OLD leftovers, rotting fruit etc. I use bleach and water. Can't go wrong with bleach. A spray bottle with 2-3oz of bleach and water makes clean up easy.

I love the whole idea of this post. Cleaning out the fridge once a year is not to much to ask. Once a month is better. I have seen a lot of needy fridges.

Putting meats in a pan or bowl contains the drips without using more disposable plastic. And the bags leak sometimes too.
