Hi Shelly and Carol,
Lol---yes, the banana grows on a plant that resembles a tree, but if you take a closer look it's really leaves that are tightly wrapped around a stem (and so it's classified as a perennial herb). It's pretty cool and a fun trivia question. You can read more about it here.

Bananas are fruit. I have banana plants in my yard in South Texas. The plants can be a nuisance as they multiply rapidly

(Red Sauce) You might want to try the Plum sauce in the Asian section at the grocery store. Another option is the red strawberry glaze and season with 5-spice powder to taste. Or go to an Asian grocery and ask around.

To ripen bananas quickly (for banana bread etc.) just put them on a sheet pan in the peel while the oven is preheating. Take out of the oven once it is preheated and allow to cool. They will be black on the outside and on the inside will be soft and look just like the overripe consistency you are looking for.

Hi Barbara,
Fun question! The banana we peel and eat is the fruit of the banana-tree, which is not really a tree but rather a perennial herb. You can find more banana facts here.
