I live in the country and some of my family still raise their own chickens. I think in the day we live it's sad that kids are growing up thinking that everything we eat comes from the grocery store. When I first met my husband my grandmother fried fresh chicken for us every Sunday. My grandfather would kill 8 chickens on Saturday for Sunday lunch. We have only been married 12 years. My husband said to me the first time he ate it , "What kind of chicken is that ?" I told him fresh. I think raising your own chickens is great . My neighbour used to have a rooster until one day the noise is no longer there. Someone must have complained. However, backyard chickens are great to have specially if you're interested in getting eggs from these fluffy species. I have a number of chickens that lay great eggs and my family loves it. I don't have a rooster mind you - learned that from the existing neighbour.
